Working in Your Home Office

The first thing you need to do when you start working from home is to get organized. Se up an office for your home business. This should be a room with a door if at all possible. You’ll also need a desk, computer with high-speed Internet access, as well as paper, pens, paper clips, stapler, telephone, etc. The point I’m trying to make is that you need to treat your home business like a business and not a hobby.

The next thing you are going to need is business hours or a realistic work schedule. This is one of the greatest challenges when you begin working for yourself. At the end of each day, make a list of all the tasks you were going to do and didn’t get done. This is going to be your starting task list for the next day.

Once you get a feel for how long each task takes you, whether it’s designing a new website, planning a marketing program or answering customer’s emails, set yourself a timetable and stick to it. Don’t get frustrated if you can’t get all the work done you had planned for the day. There will be things that come up during the day that are unavoidable.
